This is where we are. This stage is the town center and all of the commercial places sit around this square.

Life here is slow for us. We spend our days waiting for the next meal, which so far have always been very good; omelets for breakfast, and something fancy for both lunch and dinner. It is somewhat like being on a cruise. I could probably get used to this, but I am not sure I could get Household 6 to whip up a ham, cheese and pepper omelet every morning and today I had curry chicken for lunch and BBQ chicken for dinner. For those who chose not to partake in the free dining facility there are some other choices; taco bell, subway, cheese-steaks, Chinese food, and of course, fancy coffee.
After the meals, there are many options to occupy your time before the next meal. Morale, Welfare and Recreation is here in full force with a huge gym, Movie Theater, library, PX, a recreation center with ping pong and pool tables, and of course a barber shop. Although there are some Americans working here, most of these places are run by Third Country Nationals, from Pakistan and India and other places.
Today, I did a little more wandering around and took the opportunity to see the movie “Flash of Genius” which is about the man who invented the intermittent wiper blades. It is based on a true story and how Ford Motor Company took his idea and never gave him credit for it. This critic gives it two stars out of four. Tomorrow, I am going to try and see “Behind Enemy Lines 3” and then later this week “Marley and Me.” It is good to see tax dollars at work and even better to take advantage of them.
Generally the day begins here at 0600 with revile and some motivational music. At this time some energetic are already at the gym while others still have another 30 minutes of sleep before trudging off to breakfast. The daily shower normally comes mid-morning after the water has had an opportunity to heat back up after the early risers use it all up. After that, there is generally no plan. There are always spades games going on or Sports Center playing on ESPN. We all know that the Superbowl will be Pittsburg and Arizona and there are many that lost money.
Please do not get the impression from this blog that everything here is rosy and we are, by no means on vacation. The United States along with 25 different countries have decided that this is a fight worth fighting and that the world will be a better place for it. Along with all of the joking, there is very serious training going on here and we are all as safe as we can possibly be. There is no decision taken lightly and there are some Soldiers here for the third and fourth time which adds up to a wealth of experience and they willingly pass it all along to those on their first time, like me.
